Creative Process of Tattoo Art: How I Design Unique Tattoos

Sue Maistro September 23, 2025

My creative process of tattoo art is very organic, though over the years it has matured alongside my broader artistic practice. Just like we evolve as people, the way we create also evolves. For digital art I follow one path, for painting canvases another, and for tattoo design the approach is unique again.

What never changes is this: my work is always original, exclusive, and created with care for the person who will carry it. I will look at the references you send, but from there I create something new in my own artistic language. You are unique, and your tattoo should be too. This is why it’s essential that you connect with my style only then can I give you the best possible experience.

1. Creative Briefing

The process begins with a conversation. You share your idea: the theme, the story behind it, the reason, and any details that matter to you. I then provide a quote, considering the placement, theme, and size of the tattoo. During this step, we also schedule your date.

2. Art Creation

I review everything from the briefing and begin working on your design. One or two days before your appointment, I share the artwork with you. This allows you to connect with it and feel completely confident before it becomes part of your skin.

3. Tattoo Day

On the day of your tattoo, you’ll have a private and exclusive session. The space is prepared just for you, creating a calm, warm, and welcoming environment. The goal is not only to create a tattoo, but to provide a safe, memorable, and artistic experience.

Why This Creative Process of tattoo art Matters

Many studios reveal the design only on the day of the tattoo. My approach is different: by showing you the artwork in advance, I ensure trust, clarity, and excitement. This way, your tattoo becomes not just body art, but a true piece of personal storytelling.
